A luxury safari retreat in Tanzania has been named the world’s best hotel by the influential American magazine “Travel + Leisure”.
Bordering the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, east Africa, Singita Grumeti Reserves comprises of three separate accommodations: Sasakwa Lodge, Sabora Tented Camp and Faru Faru Lodge.
The 340,000-acre retreat is positioned on a renowned migratory route that is traversed by more than a million wildebeest each year.
It was one of six African properties to feature in the world’s top ten hotels according to the magazine’s Annual World’s Best Awards 2011, which was compiled from reader feedback.
Speaking about the award, Nancy Novogrod, editor of Travel + Leisure, said: “It’s clear that remote and exotic destinations – places that convey a sense of authenticity and adventure – are ruling the day once again in Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards.
“The top ten hotels overall are African camps and lodges; resorts in India; a property in Chiang Mai; and a luxury lodge in Montana.”
